Repointing or patching a step's surface starts in the few-hundred-dollar range; a full rebuild — excavation, re-compaction, formed and reinforced treads and risers — starts from $1,800 depending on size and railing work. We'll tell you which one your steps actually need before quoting either.

That's a base problem, not a surface problem. Steps poured directly on soil without a footing below frost line get lifted a little more by frost heave every winter until there's a visible gap. Patching the gap doesn't stop the heave — rebuilding on a proper compacted base does.

If the crack or spalling is cosmetic and the steps aren't moving, yes — a patch or parge coat can hold for years. If the steps are tilting, gapping from the house, or the crack runs through a tread, patching just delays a rebuild you'll pay for anyway.
